About

Chicago Bug Busters is an information site built for one purpose: to help Chicago homeowners and renters figure out what's crawling around their house and what to actually do about it.

I started this site because pest problems are stressful, and most of what you find online is either a sales pitch dressed up as an article or a wall of jargon that doesn't answer the question you actually have. If you've ever stood in your kitchen at midnight trying to figure out whether that's a cockroach or a water bug, or wondering if the ants in your bathroom mean something bigger is going on behind the wall, you know the feeling. This site is meant to be the plain-spoken resource I wish existed for those moments.

Here you'll find guides on identifying common Chicago pests, understanding why they show up in the first place (old housing stock, shared walls, alley trash, harsh winters that push everything indoors), what you can reasonably handle yourself, and when it's genuinely time to call in a licensed professional. I try to be upfront about the limits of DIY methods and the trade-offs of different treatments, rather than pretending there's always an easy fix.

I'm not a licensed exterminator, and nothing on this site should be taken as a substitute for an in-person inspection from a pest control professional. Think of this as a starting point for understanding your situation, not the final word on treating it.
